Instructions for Bringing your Glider Home:
Please follow these instructions when you bring your new glider home. You will have a healthier happier baby if you follow them exactly as stated here.
You are not to give him anything until he gets home. He will have fruit in his pouch with him to eat along the way. The airlines will bring him in that area about 10 min after the flight has landed. He will most likely be shipped in a cat carrier with a critter keeper inside. Inside the critter keeper will be a cage/pouch that I want you to just hang up in his cage. Ties or clips should hang up on the outside of the cage. If he is out of the bag when you attempt to put it in the cage, just set the critter keeper in the cage with bag and all. Once he ventures out of that area, you may hang up the bag on the side of the cage. The cage will seem awkward to him because he is currently in a PVC coated cage which feels different on their feet. It will take some getting use to the vertical bars, but he will adjust in a couple of days. If he arrives in the evening, make sure that his food is in the cage before you put him in. Once you shut the door with him in the cage, make sure you latch it! Zip tie all the doors to that cage except for the door you use to get him in and out of. They can figure out how to open them! When he comes out of the critter keeper, remove it from the cage, or leave it in the cage overnight. Do remove it the following day. Please don't try to handle him, hold him in his bag, peer down at him in the bag or anything of the sort. Your face scares him! For three days, please don't handle or touch him. Don't even try and pet him. Your introductions are crucial to having him trust you, because he is stressed after the flight. Please send me a report of how he is eating for three mornings following his arrival. Watch his poop in the bottom of the cage to make sure it is firm. On the fourth day, you can start to bond with him after you know he is cleaning his bowl at night. If he is cleaning his bowls, you know he is hey getting use to his new surroundings. If you open his bag, don't stick your hand, finger or anything down in the bag - not even a yoggie treat. Invert the bag letting him come out on you and explore you. Until he is bonded to you, don't reach down in the bag. Gliders are generally afraid of hands and faces at first. If he jumps down on the floor while you have him out, use a hand towel to retrieve him, never your hand. You don't want to associate your hand with anything that is scary for him. Make sure that all lights are out in the room at feeding time. Once he becomes accustomed to his new habitat, you can have lights on or a TV in the room. You may sit by his cage and talk to him. After the third day start to come with Yoggies. He will begin to associate you with only yummy things.
